ISS Rising Star Howard Dorfman Pathology Travel Fellowship

The ISS Rising Star Fellowship could include visits to one or two universities and or Hospitals for a period of no more than two weeks if visiting two centers. In addition to sites that hosted Fellows previously (apart from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital), the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Memorial Sloan Kettering jointly offer a venue for candidates. Visiting both sites provides exposure to a broad spectrum of both non-neoplastic and neoplastic pathologies.

Travel dates: Unrestricted and to be arranged with the host institution

  • The successful candidates will be informed by July 31st, 2026

Rising Star Objectives

  • Develop visiting pathologists’ clinical, research and teaching skills through exposure to different practice patterns around the world
  • Connect the visiting Fellow with internationally recognized musculoskeletal pathologists, molecular scientists, physicians, radiologists across the world
  • Prepare Rising Star Fellows for the challenges of leading and improving their specialty towards improving patient care

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to ISS and non-ISS members
  • 3-10 years out of training
  • Clinical, research and teaching experience
  • Currently working in a different country from the selected institution
  • Willingness to give a brief presentation at the Annual Meeting of the ISS and produce a short report about the travel experience for Skeletal Radiology after the program
